In Greece it is particularly found in the region of Serres and in shady areas of northern Greece. It is commonly referred to as “Pulmonaria” (Lungwort). The herb has been used in Europe for centuries, and many say it got its name in the 16th and 17th centuries due to its leaves resembling lungs.
Traditionally, the herb has been used in folk medicine for respiratory system diseases.
As its name suggests, it is a beneficial herb for the lungs. It gradually clears thick mucus and relieves the entire respiratory system. It helps cleanse the lungs of smokers, which are filled with tar, by expelling it through phlegm.
It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that prevent viral or bacterial infections of the lungs. It enhances lung function and revitalizes tissues suffering from inflammation.
